Event Supply Driver

Overview

Axiom Event Productions seeks energetic and qualified people to drive the event trucks for several events over the course of the summer.

 

The Event Supply Driver will deliver supply boxes, canopies, water, and signs along the route using a 26’ box truck.  This position involves the loading and unloading of event supplies, and being responsible for making safe decisions with the box truck in various dangerous circumstances: crowds of people, on tight streets, backing up long distances, and turning around corners.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with extreme caution and care operating vehicles and working with supplies
  • Drive a 26’ box truck on cycling event routes, delivering event supplies
  • Follow a detailed and specific route and plan for supply and sign delivery
  • Maintain a tight delivery timeline while driving safely
  • Apply excellent driving skills in maneuvering a box truck at varying speeds and in difficult situations.
  • Be a cheerful ambassador for each event to participants and volunteers

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Drivers need to be at least 25 years of age due to insurance requirements
  • Experience driving large trucks
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a Background Check
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and move 50-lbs or more, occasionally lifting in excess of 70-lbs
  • Must have a smart phone with a data plan and Google Maps app installed
  • Ability to read maps and follow a route

 

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: 25%Driving, 70% Lifting/Carrying/Pushing/Pulling 30-70 Pounds, 5% Walking 
  • Work environment includes working roadside in high-traffic areas, large vehicles, heavy objects, uneven surfaces, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must have perceptual and judgment ability to recognize and respond verbally to safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any disagreements or conflicts.
  • Requires staying in a shared hotel room in the area on event days

  • Harvest Century:
    • September 22nd-25th: (Hillsboro, OR) – about 40 hours
  • Compensation: $15.00 per hour

  • Length of Commitment: Full event days, up to 18 hours

SAG Drivers – cycling events

Overview

Axiom Event Productions seeks friendly and qualified people to provide on-route support for cyclists during at Ride to Defeat ALS 2017 – July, 8th.

SAG drivers are responsible for driving a support vehicle on-route and supporting event staff, volunteers and participants.  SAG driver must be comfortable handling stressful situations with professionalism and compassion while helping participants after they have had mechanical issues or fall-related injuries.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive an event support vehicle on-route in a safe and courteous manner
  • Maintain open communication with NET control, and follow the event management plan and directions
  • Assist in the safety of the event by identifying and reporting issues with the event, route and participants, and taking action as directed
  • Be a cheerful ambassador for Axiom and the event to members of the public you may meet
  • Attend to cyclists needing mechanical or medical support, transporting them and their bikes, as needed
  • Perform intermediate-level road-side bike repair services
  • Give first aid to injured riders
  • Assist in pre-staging events to prepare the SAG vehicles, as needed
  • Support staff and volunteers throughout the event, as needed, by performing tasks including truck load/unload, site set up/break down, food service and running errands

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Drivers need to be at least 25 years of age due to insurance requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a Background Check
  • Intermediate bike mechanic skills, with professional mechanic skills preferred
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Experience in organized cycling events preferred
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move 50 lbs or more
  • Have a smart phone with a data plan and Google Maps app installed
  • Ability to read maps and follow a route to drive

 

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: 75%Driving, 20% Walking, 5% Lifting/Carrying 30-50 Pounds
  • Work environment includes working roadside in high-traffic areas, blood, and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must have perceptual and judgment ability to recognize and respond verbally to safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any disagreements or conflicts.

Barricade Team – Portland Sunday Parkways

Overview

Axiom Event Productions seeks a group of energetic and skilled people to support Sunday Parkways.  Portland Sunday Parkways is an event by the Portland Bureau of Transportation that opens up 6-8 miles of road to cyclists, runners, and walkers.  Our streets let people explore their neighborhoods and discover parks filled with activities, music, vendors and food. 

To open the roads up to people, we close them down to cars.  Starting early in the morning, we need barricades set up one block off the route to warn drivers of the event ahead.  The Barricade Team will work two shifts, driving around setting up barricades and attaching detour signs before the event, and then taking it all down at the end.  There will be two teams of two people, one driver and one navigator, and each team will be responsible for nearly 100 intersections.  In between the shifts, enjoy Parkways or do as you please.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work BOTH the AM shift and PM shift
  • Drive along a designated route to specific intersections
  • Follow a detailed plan of setting up barricades and attaching detour signs
  • Maintain a tight completion time, while driving safely
  • Be a cheerful ambassador for Sunday Parkways to neighbors and drivers

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience navigating and finding destinations with GPS devices, compasses and maps
  • Able to follow specific instructions with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in and around traffic while holding safety as the #1 priority
  • Able to get in and out of the vehicle more than 100 times, and quickly
  • Lift and move repeatedly small a-frame barricades (<10-lbs)
  • Own a smartphone with data plan, with ability to download and use a mapping app
  • Preference given to pairs of people that come as a package of Driver and Navigator with a vehicle
  • Preference given to those able to commit to all five Parkways events

 

  • Only one Driver per team is needed. Additional qualifications for the Driver include:
    • Be at least 21 years of age due to insurance requirements
    • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
    • Driver needs to supply the vehicle that can fit a passenger and a few small barricades; mileage to be reimbursed

 

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: 50% Driving and navigating, 50% Jumping in and out of the car and setting up light barricades.
  • Work environment includes working roadside in high-traffic areas and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Must have perceptual and judgment ability to recognize and respond verbally to safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any disagreements or conflicts.

 

Position Details

  • Positions Available: Two Drivers and two Navigators
  • Staff Supervisor: Route Manager
  • Training: Emailed guide and an on-site training
  • Length of Commitment: 
    • AM Shift: 8:00 am until done. 2-3 hours
    • PM Shift: 3:30 pm until done. 1.5-2 hours
    • Total Hours per event: Estimated 4-5 hours, or until the job is done.
  • Employment: The Barricade Team will be employees of Axiom Event Productions. All compensation to be sent through payroll, with checks mailed out within two weeks.
  • Compensation: Both Drivers and Navigators will receive $65.00 flat-fee for the event, training and prep work. Bonuses come with each additional event worked.
  • Mileage: Axiom will reimburse the Driver for mileage at the IRS rate of 53.5 cents per mile

Route Marking Support – Axiom Cycling Events

Overview

Axiom Event Productions seeks an energetic person with excellent attention to detail to assist Axiom staff in marking cycling routes for events across the season.

Several days prior to participating each of Axiom’s cycling events, two people will drive the route and apply directional markings to guide the riders. This is a critical task that will help ensure a safe and accurate ride for all event participants. In the afternoon after the events, the route markings will be removed. The Route Marking Support person will be responsible for following maps and detailed route marking instructions as they mark 100-250 miles of route depending on the event.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with extreme caution and care operating vehicles and marking roads
  • Drive in pairs along event routes, stopping at each course marking point (approx. 1 per mile)
  • Apply paint or signs at exact locations, ensuring 100% accuracy of marking
  • After the event, thoroughly remove all course marking signs & markings
  • Work in vehicle high-traffic areas, maintaining safety at all times
  • Follow maps and directions faithfully, but make critical decisions to correct markings if needed
  • Communicate with the Team Manager as any questions arise
  • Be a cheerful ambassador for Axiom and the event to members of the public you may meet

Skills and Qualifications

  • Drivers need to be at least 21 years of age due to insurance requirements
  • Excellent driver with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Able to read maps and give/receive navigational directions
  • Able to follow hundreds of specific instructions with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in and around traffic while holding safety as the #1 priority
  • Comfortable driving for hours and getting in and out of the car hundreds of times
  • Able to work quickly and confidently
  • Friendly, patient and energetic personality
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
  • Own a smartphone and with text capability, a data plan, and Google Maps installed

  • Length of Commitment: 45-80 hours per event and includes both weekdays and weekends
